Overview
Auros and Interboro are two of the insurers whose names appear on SageSure policies. SageSure, a managing general underwriter, prices and underwrites the policies, handles service and billing, and adjusts the claims; Auros or Interboro is the insurer that carries the risk and owes the claim. You cannot buy from either company directly. A SageSure-enrolled independent agent quotes them.
- Auros Reciprocal Insurance Exchange is a Mississippi-domiciled reciprocal exchange, owned by its policyholders and run by an attorney-in-fact, Auros Risk Management. It launched in November 2024 and writes homeowners coverage in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
- Interboro Insurance Company is a New York stock insurer that has written homeowners coverage there for more than a century and now also writes in coastal South Carolina.
The NAIC files them under Iron Family Holdings Group, which ranked #83 among U.S. homeowners insurance groups by 2025 direct premiums written, with $230.1 million (0.12% of the national market), according to NAIC market share data. It was the 10th-largest homeowners group in Louisiana in 2025, with $97.7 million and a 2.81% share. The Texas Department of Insurance groups differently: its 2025 table still counts SageSure's SURE and Elevate reciprocals with Iron Family, producing a combined $470.6 million and 10th place in Texas. For SURE and Elevate themselves, see SURE and Elevate.
History
Auros. SageSure announced its exclusive partnership with Auros on November 7, 2024, calling it the third reciprocal it had sponsored after SURE (2021) and Elevate (2022). Auros had received its Mississippi certificate of authority earlier in 2024 with $25 million of initial policyholder surplus and began selling HO-3 and HO-5 policies in Mississippi and Louisiana through SageSure; Texas followed by spring 2025. Ed Konar was the first president of the attorney-in-fact; by July 2025 Travis Lewis was chief executive of Auros Risk Management.
Interboro. Before SageSure, Interboro belonged to American Coastal Insurance Corporation. American Coastal announced the sale in May 2024, and on May 9, 2024 Interboro signed program administrator and claims services agreements with SageSure, which moved its underwriting, service and claims to SageSure. The sale to Forza Insurance Holdings, then the owner of SURE's and Elevate's attorneys-in-fact, closed on April 1, 2025, for about $26.4 million in cash. That completed American Coastal's exit from personal lines.
Ownership. AM Best's 2023 corporate-structure listing shows Iron Family Holdings, LLC owning, through Slaine Holdings, both Forza and an Arizona reinsurer named SageSure Anchor Re. Forza itself was sold in 2025 to Novel Financial Holdings. By September 2025, SageSure was describing Valence Insurance Holdings as the parent company of Auros and Interboro. For a reciprocal, that means owning the attorney-in-fact that manages the exchange; the exchange's surplus belongs to its policyholders. On January 2, 2026, Valence also bought Olympus Insurance Company and its captive reinsurer, Radiant, when SageSure closed its purchase of the Olympus MGA (see Olympus Insurance).
Homeowners coverage
Both carriers write SageSure "Signature" products. Auros offers HO-3 and HO-5 homeowners policies. Interboro offers an admitted HO-3/HO-5 program statewide in New York and, in South Carolina, HO-3/HO-5 and DP-3 dwelling fire coverage in Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Georgetown, Horry and Jasper counties. SageSure says the New York program uses a two-score credit model in rating and is most competitive in Richmond, Queens, Bronx, Kings, Sullivan and Dutchess counties.
SageSure underwrites these policies with its own rules. Its stated practice is to insure homes to 100% of estimated replacement cost and to offer replacement cost roof coverage where available. Coastal homes usually carry a percentage named-storm or hurricane deductible, so check the deductible line on the declarations page (see hurricane and named-storm deductibles explained). Flood is excluded and must be bought separately.
Discounts and savings
Louisiana's 2026 report to the legislature on FORTIFIED discounts lists Auros with a 30% discount for homes holding an IBHS FORTIFIED Roof designation; Louisiana insurers typically apply these discounts to the wind and hail portion of the premium. That is among the higher filed discounts on the list (see The FORTIFIED Home standard and insurance discounts). Other credits, such as wind mitigation, protective devices and higher deductibles, depend on SageSure's state rating plans; ask the agent which apply.
Where it sells and recent market moves
Auros writes in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas; Interboro writes in New York and coastal South Carolina. In Texas, a SageSure filing for Auros cut rates by an overall 3.5%, effective August 19, 2025 for new policies and November 1, 2025 for renewals, according to TDI's March 2026 rate filing exhibit.
Reinsurance is the other story. Auros first entered the catastrophe bond market in April 2025 through SageSure's Gateway Re program ($150 million, shared with Elevate), followed by $100 million in July 2025. In March 2026 a $175 million Gateway Re bond added three years of multi-peril protection from July 1, 2026 for Auros and Interboro, covering losses in Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, South Carolina and Texas, including wildfire and severe thunderstorm (see catastrophe bond).

Ratings and reputation
Neither carrier has an AM Best rating. SageSure's partner pages, read in October 2026, list both Auros and Interboro with a Demotech Financial Stability Rating of A (Exceptional); Auros has carried that rating since its November 2024 launch. Fannie Mae accepts a Demotech A rating on the homeowners policies behind loans it buys.
Interboro's finances were weak before the sale. Kroll Bond Rating Agency cut its rating from BBB+ to BBB on April 1, 2025, citing underwriting losses that reduced policyholder surplus 45% in five years, from $38.4 million in 2019 to $21 million in 2024, then withdrew the rating once the sale closed. Auros is young, with a short claims record.
Neither company appears in J.D. Power's home insurance studies, and no NAIC complaint index was found for either.
Who it suits
These carriers suit homeowners in coastal Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, South Carolina and New York City's boroughs who work with an independent agent and need admitted coverage when large national insurers are pulling back. Auros's 30% FORTIFIED Roof discount makes it worth quoting for a Louisiana home with that designation. They suit less well buyers who want an AM Best-rated insurer, a company with a long claims record in the Gulf (Auros), or one company for home and auto.
- Strengths: admitted HO-3 and HO-5 coverage in hard coastal markets; SageSure's underwriting, claims operation and catastrophe bond backing; a 30% FORTIFIED Roof discount in Louisiana; Auros policyholders own the exchange.
- Weaknesses: Demotech-rated rather than AM Best-rated; Auros dates only from late 2024; Interboro's surplus fell sharply before its 2025 sale; ownership runs through private holding companies that have changed repeatedly since 2024.
