Overview

American Integrity Insurance Company is a Tampa-based homeowners insurer owned by American Integrity Insurance Group, Inc., which has traded on the New York Stock Exchange as AII since May 2025. It sells only through independent agents and writes in four states: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. American Integrity ranked #42 among U.S. homeowners insurance groups by 2025 direct premiums written, with $622.9 million (0.33% of the national market), according to NAIC market share data.

Florida is almost the whole story. The company was the 10th-largest homeowners insurer in Florida in 2025, with $590.0 million in premiums and 3.13% of the state market, which works out to about 95% of its national homeowners premium. Its own filings say it conducts "substantially all" of its business in Florida. By June 30, 2026 it had 461,714 policies in force and $1.03 billion of in-force premium, up 15.7% and 11.7% from a year earlier.

Like most Florida domestic carriers (see florida's domestic home insurers: who they are), American Integrity is rated by Demotech and Kroll Bond Rating Agency rather than advertising an AM Best rating.

History

Robert "Bob" Ritchie, an industry veteran whose career included American Modern, AIG, CNA and GE Insurance Solutions, founded American Integrity in 2006. Several Florida insurers had failed after the 2004 hurricane season and national carriers were shrinking in the state. The company issued its first policy in 2007, reached 100,000 policies in 2012 and passed 200,000 in 2014.

It lived through the period of Florida roof-claim litigation and assignment of benefits abuse, then Hurricanes Irma (2017) and Ian (2022), and it credits the 2022 reforms that ended one-way attorney fees and banned AOBs for stabilizing the market (see florida's 2022–2023 property insurance reforms explained). Expansion into South Carolina began in 2022, Georgia followed in 2024, and the company passed 300,000 policies the same year.

On May 7, 2025 the holding company priced its initial public offering of 6,875,000 shares at $16.00, and trading began on the NYSE on May 8. Later in 2025 it passed 400,000 policies and entered Florida's commercial residential insurance market. North Carolina was added on January 5, 2026. The insurance subsidiary, formerly American Integrity Insurance Company of Florida, now operates as American Integrity Insurance Company. Bob Ritchie remains founder and chief executive; Jon Ritchie, who joined in 2009 and became chief operating officer in 2019, is president.

Homeowners coverage

In Florida, American Integrity sells separate programs for new construction (homes up to five years old), homes six years and older, and high-value homes. Its product page describes the high-value program for homes valued from $750,000 to $10 million. In May 2026 the company raised its maximum total insured value per property to $15 million on HO-3 and DP-3 policies in all four states, excluding homes in protection classes 8B, 9 and 10 or without a central station alarm. It also writes condos, renters, manufactured homes, rental dwellings, vacant homes and seasonal homes.

Two products stand out for Florida shoppers:

  • ValueGuard Property Insurance, a stripped-down policy that covers fire and windstorm, including hurricanes, with contents, liability and flood as options. It is aimed at owners who would otherwise self-insure. It costs less because it covers less, so read which perils are missing before you switch.
  • Private flood endorsement, available on homes, condos, rentals, vacant and seasonal properties. The company says it is typically about 15% cheaper than the NFIP, takes effect with no waiting period and has one deductible per occurrence (compare private flood and the NFIP).

Optional coverages include equipment breakdown, identity theft and, on high-value homes, cyber coverage, plus Silver, Gold and Diamond coverage packages in Florida. Hurricane losses fall under a separate hurricane deductible. Coverage details vary by program and state, and your policy form controls.

Discounts and savings

American Integrity's Florida discount page lists windstorm mitigation credits, an accredited-builder discount for new homes, multi-policy savings when you add a seasonal home, rental, boat or golf cart policy, protective devices, secured or gated communities, a senior/retiree discount at 55 and older, a military discount, insurance score and water-leak detection systems. ValueGuard has a shorter list: fire alarms, sprinklers and wind mitigation features. Not every discount applies to every product.

Where it sells and recent market moves

Florida remains the core market. Georgia's product page markets coverage for homes built within the past five years, and the North Carolina page calls recently constructed homes the company's specialty. The South Carolina page also offers flood.

Citizens take-outs drove much of the recent growth. In the first quarter of 2025 American Integrity assumed 16,632 policies from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation. In the first quarter of 2026 it took 584, and in the second quarter just 81, saying fewer Citizens policies met its underwriting and profitability standards. Growth shifted to voluntary business: about 43,000 new voluntary policies in the second quarter of 2026, a company record, including 7,636 in Florida's Tri-County region (Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) and 9,062 on middle-aged homes, two areas where it wrote very little a year earlier. If you receive a take-out offer, Florida law generally makes a primary home ineligible to stay with Citizens unless the private offer is more than 20% above Citizens' renewal premium (see depopulation and takeout offers from state insurers of last resort).

Claims

Claims can be reported 24 hours a day at 866-277-9871 or online through the customer portal; tropical storm and hurricane claims have a separate line, 844-692-4421. In October 2026, as Hurricane Isaias headed for the Florida Panhandle, the company's website pointed Isaias claims to myaii.com and that hurricane line. The company says it tries to reach policyholders within 24 hours, assigns a local field adjuster when an inspection is needed, and has an on-call adjuster for urgent losses such as fire or a home that can't be lived in. Have photos, temporary-repair invoices and living-expense receipts ready.

Ratings and reputation

Demotech lists an A (Exceptional) Financial Stability Rating for American Integrity Insurance Company as of October 2026. KBRA affirmed its BBB+ insurance financial strength rating, outlook stable, on December 23, 2025. It first assigned BBB in 2019 and published the upgraded BBB+ in April 2025. KBRA cited stronger earnings under Florida's post-reform environment and sound capitalization, balanced against concentration in Florida, hurricane exposure and heavy reliance on reinsurance. Either rating meets Fannie Mae's insurer-rating minimums (Demotech A or KBRA BBB), which matters if you have a mortgage (see Demotech ratings and Florida's insurers).

Reinsurance does a lot of the work. The 2026–2027 catastrophe program, effective June 1, 2026, provides about $3 billion of total limit, including $572 million from the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, with $2.25 billion available for a single event. First-event retention is $35 million. Results have been strong lately: a 63.4% combined ratio in the second quarter of 2026. No J.D. Power ranking was found.

Who it suits

American Integrity suits Florida homeowners who work with an independent agent, particularly owners of newer or high-value homes, people leaving Citizens, and those who want private flood written with their home policy. It suits less well homeowners outside its four states or anyone who wants a carrier with national diversification: a bad hurricane season in Florida affects nearly all of its book.

  • Strengths: Demotech A (Exceptional) and KBRA BBB+ (stable, affirmed December 2025); about $3 billion of 2026–2027 catastrophe reinsurance; private flood endorsement with no waiting period; high-value capacity up to $15 million.
  • Weaknesses: about 95% of homeowners premium in Florida; no advertised AM Best rating; sold only through independent agents; Georgia and North Carolina products focus on newer homes.
